Traffic levels in Stirling are forecast to increase by 19% between 2005 and 2010, with potential growth of 24% by 2015. This is not sustainable and increasing levels of congestion will begin to impact on our environment, economy and quality of life. As individuals, we all need to take more responsibility for the travel choices we make and the stirlingliftshare scheme has been developed with this in mind. The Stirling Liftshare scheme is part of the wider Tactran regional liftshare scheme, it covers travel to, from, and within the Stirling Council boundary.

Scottish Borders Council is part of the South East of Scotland Transport Partnership SESTran which works together with neighbouring Local Authorities to promote sustainable transport. As well as promoting public transport use, car sharing in particular, is encouraged to reduce the number of single occupancy journeys. We are a large rural authority with a number of large towns and also have Edinburgh and Newcastle both in commuting distance.
